UV radiation was discovered in 1801 by the German physicist Johann Ritter. Its energy is comparable to that of chemical bonds, which it can attack specifically and selectively. It is suitable for combating or inactivating germs, including viruses. UV radiation was first used to disinfect surfaces in 1877, to sterilise water in 1910 and to disinfect air in 1935.

The consortium "Advanced UV for Life", now the association of the same name, has been working intensively in recent years on the development of LEDs as UV radiation sources and their broad technical application. The corona pandemic has given enormous importance to the development of UV LEDs and their use for disinfection and triggered a boom of new developments.

In the joint workshop of Advanced UV for Life e.V., OpTecBB e.V. and the LiTG e.V., new findings and technical developments in disinfection with UV radiation, especially using UV LEDs, will be presented and discussed.

Participation in the event is free of charge. Advance registration is required.
