micro photonics preview

As a sort of warm-up for the congress expo in 2016 a preview in the form of a two-day congress event with accompanying exhibition will take place from 26th to 27th November at the Berlin Exhibition Grounds.

The preview is a combination of specialist lectures, technical workshops, company presentations and networking. The main idea of the event is to introduce scientific and technological innovations to potential partners from the industry. This year’s program is focused on the discussion of new technologies and will provide insight into the application of micro-solutions in bio photonics.

"Advanced UV for Life" will be represented at the preview at booth 10 to inform interested visitors. Our partner Ferdinand-Braun-Institut will present an UV LED module for the application to plants, that was developed in cooperation with the partner Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops Großbeeren/Erfurt e.V.. The module with UVB LEDs of tailored wavelength is used to influence the metabolism of plants and to promote the synthesis of specific plant substances.

16th - 19th November 2015


From 16th to 19th november the trade fairs COMPAMED and MEDICA are taking place in Dusseldorf. Interested Visitors can get information on latest trends and developments in medicine. Besides the trade fairs, conferences and forums to current topics are also offered.

6th International Symposium on Growth of III-Nitrides (ISGN-6)

The 6th International Symposium on Growth of III-Nitrides (ISGN-6) will be held on November 8-13, 2015, in Hamamatsu, Japan. This symposium is devoted to the exposition of recent progress and outlining future directions in the field of bulk substrates and the thin-film growth of III-nitrides, as well as the growth and fabrication of nanostructures. The aim of ISGN-6 is to cover the development of all relevant growth techniques for III-nitrides.

Our partner Leibniz Instiute for Crystal Growth will be presenting two talks:

  • "Deep UV transparent AlN substrates with high crystalline perfection for optoelectronic devices" (invited) at session We-A-1, on November 11th at 9:20 am
  • "Preparation of semi-insulating and weak n-type conducting AlN substrates" at session We-A-1, on November 11th at 9:40 am

12th China International Forum on Solid State Lighting

The 12th China International Forum on Solid State Lighting (SSLCHINA 2015) will be held from 2nd - 4th November, 2015 at Shenzhen Convention & Exhibition Center. The aim of the SSL International forum is to promote international communication and cooperation on SSL technology and application and to lead the direction of development of the emerging industry of SSL.

J.-Thomas Zettler, CEO and president of our partner LayTec AG, will be presenting a talk on “Integrated metrology – latest progress for enabling advanced manufacturing of III-Nitride based LEDs (visible and UV) and Lasers” at session P304: International Innovation in Industry Summit in the Tulip Hall, 6th Floor on November 2nd at 03:50 PM. First European School on Crystal Growth

The First European School on Crystal Growth (ESCG)  will be held at the CNR Research Area in Bologna on 5th to 8th September 2015. The aim of the ESCG School is to bring together PhD students and young researchers from all over Europe and the rest of the world in a warm and stimulating atmosphere to introduce them to the fundamental concepts and mechanisms governing crystal growth processes.

Mr. Siche from the Leibniz Institute for Crystal Growth is a member of the Scientific Comitee. In addition the institute will be represented through a lecture by Mr. Klimm on "Thermodynamics and phase diagrams in Crystal Growth".

After this event the 5th European Conference on Crystal Growth will start in Bologna.

From 7th to 10th June the European Workshop on Metalorganic Vapour Phase Epitaxy- EWMOVPE is taking place in Lund, Sweden. The aim of the workshop is to bring together scientists and engineers to discuss the latest trends in MOVPE. The workshop will consist of eight invited plenary talks, contributed poster presentations and a commercial exhibition which will feature international exhibitors from several sectors of materials science and engineering.

Our consortium partner LayTec AG invites within the EWMOVPE on June 8th to the 20th in-situ seminary. All interested parties are invited to exchange information as part of the in-situ seminar on ideas and experiences. In addition, two lectures will be offered.Mr. Martin Zorn will inform about "Fast and highly accurate in-situ calibration of AlGaAs ternary composition for MOVPE-based growth of edge-emitting diode lasers" and Mr.  Sami Suihkonen about "The effect of bow and wrap of a 6” Si substrate on the growth and GaN film quality using EpiCurve® TT".

NIL Industrial Day

micro resist technology GmbH (mrt) organized the Workshop about technologies of the future, especially Nanoimprint Lithography (short: NIL) which takes place in the Wydham Grand Berlin from 19th to 20th March 2015.

Lectures from industrie and science show the complete process chain of NIL-technology and its applications. The integration of NIL into existing production processes and a outlook into the future are parts of the program.

Besides lectures from mrt a second consortium partner SENTECH will be represented through a booth and a lecture.

CS International Conference

The 5th CS International Conferende is taking part in Frankfurt am Main from 11th to 12th March 2015. More than 30 expert presentations are divided into six groups so that a complete coverage of the compound semiconductor industry is carried out. Main topics are: Solid-State Lighting, Front-End Mobiles, III - IV CMOS, Power electronics, Optoelectronics und RF electronics.

Forschung vor Ort - Discussion

"Making UV radiation usable - from skin treatment to water disinfection" was the topic from 5.00 o'clock in the  Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut fuer Hoechstfrequenztechnik in Berlin Adlershof.

The Consortium initiated together with Berliner Wirtschaftsgespräche e.V. a discussion about the multiple applications and research areas of uv radiation and the opportunities of development. After a short presentation from the spokesmen of the consortium, Mr. Günther Tränkle, more representives from the consortium took part in a discussion.

Thanks to the participation from Ms. Monika Schreiner (Leibniz Institute of Vegetable and Ornamental Crops Großbeeren/Erfurt e.V.), Ms. Martina Meinke (Charité Universitätsmedizin Berlin), Mr. Matthias Bickermann (Leibniz Institute for Crystal Growth), Mr. Jens Rass (UVphotonics in Gründung) und Mr. Günther Tränkle (Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut fuer Hoechstfrequenztechnik) the fields of application and research from the different topics out of the consortium were shown.
