The perception of UV radiation by plants, animal and human organisms, UV-mediated signal transmission and impact as well as general UV-induced effects in the various biological systems represent some of these aspects. Humans can take deliberate advantage of a large portion of this, creating appropriate technical solutions for this purpose.
The thematic field of Environment & Life Sciences addresses promising fields of application for UV LEDs and strives for the following developments:
- Luminaires equipped with narrow-band UV LEDs and LEDs for other spectral ranges that are used in horticultural production for the creation of functional foods, nutraceuticals and raw plant materials
- A stationary, highly-stable UV-based gas analyzer for use in the chemicals industry, in power plants, greenhouses, phytotrons, and storage rooms
- Systems for nucleic acid extraction and integrated determination of the nucleic acids for molecular diagnostics using narrowband emitting UV LEDs
